Soil + grass outlook · United Kingdom

See below the surface.

Fieldcast brings soil moisture, soil temperature, grass growth and rainfall outlooks together—so grassland farmers can see the wider picture before planning the week.

One outlook, four signals

Conditions that shape the week.

Browse a shared 14-day forecast window, compare conditions over time, and inspect local trends on the map.

01 / SOIL

Moisture

Volumetric soil moisture at 0–10 cm, with a configurable dryness-screening threshold.

02 / SOIL

Temperature

Surface conditions below the surface, shown alongside the moisture outlook.

03 / GRASS

Growth estimate

Stored model output in kg dry matter per hectare per day when a growth-enabled run is available.

04 / WEATHER

Rainfall

Daily rainfall estimates where the stored run includes the required model fields.

05 / PLACE

Local context

Search a town or outward postcode district, or select a map cell to review its outlook.

06 / HISTORY

Stored records

Production forecasts are stored with provider and run metadata; the interface labels freshness and source.

The useful caveat

A regional signal, not a field prescription.

  • ↗Production uses NOAA GFS 0.5° weather data. The ~9 km H3 cells are a display grid; neighboring cells are not independent field forecasts.
  • ↗Dry-cell highlighting is experimental screening—not an official drought warning or a validated measure of farm impact.
  • ↗Grass growth has been checked against historical regional field-bulletin measurements. That is not the same as proving paddock-level accuracy or financial benefit.
  • ↗Synthetic demo values are labelled as demo data; they are not weather observations or model output.
Built, checked, disclosed

Forecasting should earn trust.

Fieldcast is a working data product, with model limits documented alongside its outputs.

1,059

UK H3 map cells in the live national grid. The grid makes the forecast explorable; it does not create finer weather data.

114 weeks

Historical GrassCheck GB bulletins used in the model-validation work documented by the project. Comparisons are regional, not farm-by-farm.

Start with the outlook. Bring the field into focus.
